You can create a runner for your hallway, entryway or kitchen with almost any weave we carry. To help you select the best material for the location and use, here are some guidelines:

Entryway, Kitchen, Laundry Room
Busy areas that might get wet and experience heavy traffic need durable, easy to clean materials. Look for synthetics like polypropylene, SynSisal®, woven vinyl or recycled PET.

Hallways & Landings
A runner rug in a hallway or on a landing encounters lighter traffic and is an ideal candidate for sisal, stain-resistant sisal, seagrass or a blend.

Bathrooms & Bedside
Soft fibers like wool, wool blends, poly silk or TENCEL make a welcoming, comfortable runner.

To narrow down by material, simply click on Material to expand the filters on the left and select your material of choice.

When you have found the perfect style, simply select Price & Order from the product page to create your runner area rug.

  • From our Rug Builder, select Rectangle, choose your color and enter the dimensions.

  • Next, you will be asked what kind of Border you want—options like serged edge or a cloth binding vary depending on the weave.

  • Confirm your border choice and select Finalize Order for optional supplies.

  • When you are satisfied, select Add to Cart. (Don't worry - you can still edit your order once it is in the cart if you change your mind)

Definitely. Many area rugs are anchored by furniture, but since runner rugs are usually free-floating in the middle of a hallway or in front of a kitchen sink, they need something to secure them to the floor. Otherwise, a free-range runner presents a tripping or slipping hazard.

A rug pad also increases comfort by adding a layer cushion. And when a rug is stabilized and supported, it lasts longer. If you want to learn more about rug pads, read our blog post Do I really need a rug pad?

As you build your runner in our Rug Builder, you will be asked if you want a rug pad during the Finalize Order step.
